HOLLYWOOD, FL, July 12, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Janet S. Mantia (formerly Janet S. Stegall-Tackleson of Burlington, Iowa), Mental Health Contractor for Wexford Health Service, has been selected as an Executive Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Janet S. Mantia's commitment to excellence in Psychology and Healthcare.
Mantia, who holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, followed by a Master's Degree in Professional Counseling, both from Ottawa University, has also completed postgraduate work in trauma, abuse, and deprivation. She began working in her field in 1999 as a case manager for the seriously mentally ill population within her community.
After earning her master's degree in 2001, Mantia began working for Triple R Behavioral Health. She worked with the same population, doing intake assessments for their residential and clubhouse programs. During that time, she completed her testing and became a licensed professional counselor.
Upon being laid off in 2004, Mantia pursued a position with the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) and was offered a position at Eagle Point School in Buckeye.
"I found that the youth were resistant to treatment and resistant to change," Mantia explained. "After working with them for a few years, I transferred to the adult system and found that the adults were not required to participate in mental health treatment. I found the inmates that I work with to be more interested in help and change, which makes the job more rewarding."
Mantia is assigned to one yard, where she is currently responsible for a population of approximately four hundred inmates and has carried caseloads up to one thousand with mental health issues in the last four years. When meeting with inmates who are transferred in from other facilities, she completes a basic assessment for mental health needs and informs them of services available to them. Primarily, individual counseling and life skills groups, including anger management, are available if they need or want to participate in treatment. Mantia also has a shared responsibility for inmates that are on suicide watch, files notes on inmate contact, and performs other routine duties and paperwork, including scheduling appointments and tracking caseload s and pulling files she'll need for the appointments.
"My personal compassion and spirituality play a big role in encouraging change and possibility thinking," Mantia said about her career and influence that she has on her patients. "For them to know that you understand why they behave the way they do and that they can overcome and change is very powerful."
Mantia also noted that her post graduate certification in trauma, abuse, and deprivation earned her the knowledge that she draws on regularly, due to the fact that most of the inmates have usually come from a background that included at least one of those factors. She is also a certified psychosocial rehabilitation professional.
