Trafalgar & The Conservation Foundation Support the National Trust's Appeal to Safeguard the UK's White Cliffs of Dover

Award winning travel company continues commitment to conserve iconic landmarks.

ANAHEIM, CA, July 19, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Trafalgar, the Insider of guided vacations, believes that the world's natural and cultural heritage is what sustains the travel industry, and that its preservation is imperative. This belief has compelled them to continue their support for The National Trust for a second year, this time as their current sole corporate sponsor in the bid to save the world-renowned White Cliffs of Dover. In partnership with The Travel Corporation Conservation Foundation, Trafalgar's donation will aid the National Trust in their bid to purchase a missing 1.35 km stretch of the spectacular White Cliffs, and protect this natural habitat as an iconic landmark for generations to enjoy.

"We are passionate about the efforts of the National Trust in preserving our history, so the opportunity to support them to further protect such a significant historical site took little consideration," says Gavin Tollman, Global CEO of Trafalgar. "As Trafalgar's roots are in the UK, we are very connected to this project, and in marking our 65th birthday this year, we are proud to be a part of such a meaningful campaign."

The National Trust must raise GBP1.2million in order to purchase the land, and are sending a nationwide appeal to 'Save the White Cliffs'. Donors are able to virtually "etch" their name and a message of support in the cliffs. The appeal was officially launched on June 25th of this year. For details about the appeal and how to donate please visit National Trust - White Cliffs of Dover Appeal.

For centuries, the White Cliffs of Dover have been an evocative symbol of England. This famous site is an area of a unique natural landscape that has a strong place in England's cultural identity. From Julius Caesar to World War II, the Cliffs have been a feature throughout England's history and remains one of the most breathtaking stretches of English coastline. The Cliffs play host to visitors all year round and have been classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a significant proportion of which has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

The National Trust was established in 1885 as a guardian for the United Kingdom in the acquisition and protection of threatened coastline, countryside and buildings. The National Trust's current bid to acquire the additional section of the Cliffs will prevent the land from being sold for commercial use, a threat that would dismantle many years of conservation efforts.

The White Cliffs of Dover are featured in several Trafalgar itineraries found in their Europe & Britain brochure. Their 9-day Glimpse of Europe Ends Paris 2012 allows travelers to become acquainted with the elegant landmarks and picturesque scenery of Dover, Amsterdam, Rhine Valley, Heidelberg, Black Forest, Schaffhausen, Lucerne and Paris. Guests will gaze over the rooftops of Paris from the Eiffel Tower, explore Lucerne's medieval old town nestled in the Swiss Alps, admire the spectacular Rhine Falls, and stroll along the beautiful canals of Amsterdam. Guests will be taken on a scenic drive through the county of Kent, known as the 'Garden of England' because of its orchards and hop fields, to reach the Channel port of Dover, famous for the White Cliffs.

Other itineraries featuring the White Cliffs of Dover include: The 15-day European Adventures Ends Paris 2012, the 18-day European Impressions Ends Paris 2012, the 11-day European Dream 2012 and 15-day European Magic 2012.

Trafalgar's support of the National Trust began with the rebuilding of an environmentally sustainable visitor's center at Northern Ireland's iconic Giant's Causeway, a UNESCO Heritage site and they are pleased to be able to support the National Trust now, in its bid to protect another iconic destination, the White Cliffs of Dover.
