MONACO, July 27, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Built by Holland Jachtbouw and re-designed and optimised by Dykstra Naval Architects, S/Y RAINBOW JH2 is the latest and most technically advanced J-Class in the world.
"After 78 years, the famous J-Class yacht RAINBOW sails again", these were the proud sentiments expressed by Holland Jachtbouw as the eagerly anticipated launch of her replica took place earlier this year in Zaandam. Winner of the America's Cup in 1934, the original J-Class RAINBOW was at the forefront of J-Class technology in her day, now her technically advanced, cutting edge ancestor, RAINBOW JH2, is predicted to set the racing world alight.
Responsibility for the construction of the new RAINBOW JH2 was given to Holland Jachtbouw whilst re-design and optimisation was entrusted to Dykstra Naval Architects, designers of the 46 metre schooner WINDROSE OF AMSTERDAM, which set the Trans-Atlantic schooner record at 10,5 days in 2005. Whilst her design is based on the original William Starling Burgess blueprint, Dykstra Naval Architects has pushed technological boundaries to deliver a J-Class unsurpassable in quality and performance.
"Built for an experienced sailing yacht owner, RAINBOW JH2 is the first J-class yacht with a complete hybrid propulsion and power system," William Bishop, Head of YPI's sailing division and RAINBOW JH2's broker explains. "That means fuel savings of up to 30% as well as a reduction in sound. She can sail underway in silent operation and has ample hydraulic power in racing mode." This is a unique feature of the RAINBOW JH2; there is no main engine but two generators that can deliver 350Kw on the propeller.
RAINBOW JH2 was built to Lloyds A1 and MCA standard, so the new owner can race her as well as enjoy her at a more relaxed pace on a holiday yacht charter.
The RAINBOW JH2 can accommodate a professional crew of seven, who can cater up to ten guests. Guest quarters consist of three cabins: a Master, double and twin with two Pullman berths. Her internal decor has a classic 1930's style with mahogany-panelled fittings and rich furnishings. Externally she looks elegant and sleek with a jet-black hull and gold leaf cove stripe and a deck that has been kept as clean and devoid of excess fittings as possible. "We believe that RAINBOW JH2 is the most beautiful J on the water today," says Van Ineveld, Co-director at Holland Jachtbouw. "But more importantly, she is built to win races!"
