STAMFORD, CT, August 07, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- We have all heard the stories of a life being saved because someone had the quick wit and know-how to perform CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation). We have also heard the heart-wrenching stories of those who do not survive quite simply because no one was around or knew what to do. "He just dropped dead." "It was so unexpected. He looked so healthy." "She was just 30 years old, and athletic. Who would have thought?"
Dr. Thomas Nero, interventional cardiologist, Comprehensive Cardiology of Stamford and Greenwich had a dream that he wanted to change the loss of life to at least give those in need a chance to survive. Thus HANDS FOR LIFE STAMFORD 2012 evolved and was enthusiastically supported by Stamford Mayor Michael Pavia and Stamford's Director of Public Health Anne Fountain. A committee of members of the community and businesses was formed and the new Chelsea Piers CT in Stamford, CT offered a place to hold this potentially life-saving event.
On Saturday, August 25th from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. anyone who wants to learn how to perform HANDS-ONLY CPR and has 15 minutes to spare will have the opportunity to do so. The hope is to set a new Guinness World Record and train 10,000 people in one day. There will be trainers on hand who will guide those in attendance through the steps necessary to give life back to someone in need.
"Every day I wake up knowing that I have a chance to help someone live a longer, healthy life. That's why I became a doctor and this day is truly my dream come true. I want to thank the City of Stamford and all of the volunteers and donors involved who are helping to make this day a reality. I hope to give others the chance to make their dreams come true as well as we learn CPR life-saving basics - call 911, check and compress," stated Dr. Thomas Nero.
