Dr. Bruce Watson became involved in his profession as a result of his long-held interest in community development processes. After starting his career as a medical scientist working in diagnostic pathology, he transitioned to spending many years teaching at RMIT University and holding executive positions as head of department, head of school and deputy dean before retrenchment in 1999. Dr. Watson's impressive education credentials include a doctorate in organisational learning and a level four certification in assessment and workplace training from the University of Melbourne, as well as a master's degree in educational studies from Monash University. A fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, he is also a member of the Australian College of Educators and a six-time recipient of the Australian Achiever Award (2007-2012).

Away from the demands of running his business, Dr. Watson sings in a men's a cappella group called Men in Suits and is a business partner of Buy 1 Give 1 (B1G1), a global community organisation and giving engine which donates to people in need. He also does film acting, takes writing courses and enjoys attending the opera, ballet and theater.
