ENGLEWOOD, CO, September 01, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The 11th Annual Austin Jay Fund Memorial Golf Tournament took place on Sunday August 26th, 2012. It was held at Coyote Creek Golf Course in Fort Lupton, Colorado. The tournament raised over $10,000 which will be added to more than $200,000 that this fund has raised over the years. The money has been donated to the neurology department at Denver's Children's Hospital. The fund was inspired by Austin Jay, a boy born with Bilateral Schizencephaly, a condition characterized by abnormal development in the hemispheres of the brain. It's a rare disease and research funding is scarce. Austin's dad Jay started the tournament to fund research when Austin was 3. He died when he was 11 but his family vows to continue raising money to find a cure for this disease. Jay was pleased with this year's turnout and looks forward to the growing success of the tournament. "Someday we'll have hundreds of golfers and I know we'll save another kid's life with this. I know we will." The Austin Jay Fund has made it possible for neurology department at Children's Hospital to continue to research this disease as well as fostered forums for doctors worldwide to share research findings.
Jay says the tournament is attracting more and more individual golfers as well as corporate participants. Local businesses see charity tournaments as a way to help out in their community as well as sponsor a fun outing for their employees. 1st Class Medical is located in Englewood, Colorado and sells portable oxygen concentrators and home oxygen machines. They participate in many local charity events and were a corporate participant this year. They got involved through Julian Montoya who is a respiratory specialist, helping patients find an oxygen machine that best suits their needs at one of the company's web entities, www.portableoxygenconcentratorsltd.com. Julian has played in the tournament for the past nine years and decided to take a break from discussing oxygen concentrators and get a foursome together to hit the links for a good cause. Their team also consisted of representatives from www.g2portableoxygen.com and www.lifechoiceconcentrator.com. The oxygen concentrator team didn't win the tournament this year but said they enjoyed their time out on the course and were happy to help out a great cause.
In addition to the golf tournament the Austin Jay Fund holds a silent auction and is planning a bowling tournament this winter.
