Learn How the FDA's Granuflow Recall Initiates Lawsuits at FreeAdvice.com

Granuflo dialysis medication was recalled by the FDA because of serious side effects including heart attack and fatal cardiac arrest leading to numerous lawsuits against the drug's manufacturer, Fresenius.

SAUSALITO, CA, September 12, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Food and Drug Administration recently issued a Class 1 Product Recall for Granuflo dialysis solution. Granuflo is manufactured by Fresenius, and has been linked to serious medical side effects including cardiac arrest, heart attack, and stroke. A Class 1 recall is only issued by the FDA when the agency finds a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.

Why Did the FDA Recall Granuflo?

Earlier this year, the FDA concluded an investigation into Granuflo dialysis solution by recalling the product. According to medical reports, Granuflo's active ingredient converts into a compound known as bicarbonate when used in dialysis. Bicarbonate is critical to the dialysis process because it neutralizes the acid a body normally builds up. Bicarbonate is administered with dialysis solutions like Granuflo to simulate kidney function and regulate the body.

Doctors, unaware that Granuflo converted into bicarbonate during dialysis, unknowingly gave patients too much bicarbonate. Higher levels of bicarbonate in dialysis patients created an increased risk for heart attack, stroke, or cardiac arrest leading to death. After extensive study, the FDA recalled Granuflo, declaring that it should no longer be used on dialysis patients.

Will There Be Granuflo Lawsuits?

Attorneys are working with potential clients and gathering information to pursue legal action against Fresenius Medical Care because of the serious problems associated with Granuflo. The drug's manufacturer, Fresenius, had issued a memo to doctors at its dialysis clinics in November, 2011 that attorneys say shows Fresenius knew about the problems with Granuflo. However, similar warnings about Granuflo were not sent to doctors outside of the company's own dialysis clinics, and as a result many doctors were unaware of the potential lethal side effects.

It seems certain there will be Granuflo lawsuits alleging that Fresenius failed in its duty to warn doctors and patients about the drug's dangerous side effects. These legal cases will include claims for wrongful death lawsuits as a number of patients have suffered fatal cardiac arrest after being treated with Granuflo.
