JYSK, Danish Furniture and Bedding Retail Chain Celebrates Historical Opening of Store Number 2,000

    PORT COQUITLAM, BC, September 15, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- JYSK, known for its downy duvets and pillows, celebrates a lofty milestone this month, with the opening of its 2,000th retail store. Lars Larsen opened the first store in 1979. In 2005, JYSK was 1,000 stores strong. Remarkably, in just seven years JYSK has managed to double its store locations around the world. JYSK now sells furniture and bedding in 34 different countries.

"I am both proud and delighted that we reach this milestone. It means a lot for me to see how JYSK constantly grows in volume and as a healthy business. Particularly in recent years it has expanded rapidly and the next goal must be that we in 10-15 years can celebrate the opening of store number 4,000. It is ambitious but it is good to have great ambitions, "says Lars Larsen, founder and owner of JYSK. With store 2,000 located in Leknes, a somewhat isolated city on a Norwegian island, he adds, "It should be easy to visit us and it doesn't matter whether you live in a big city or in smaller cities around the world."

Larsen must be pleased with the great ambitions shown by the JYSK Canada group, as the Canadian story is a remarkable parallel to the global one. In 1996, Jakup Jacobsen opened the first JYSK store in Western Canada, offering Canadians great buys on bedding, furniture and draperies. In just 16 years JYSK Canada has grown to 54 brick and mortar stores, along with an ecommerce site, www.jysk.ca.
