MONACO, September 21, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Every year St Tropez, arguably one of France's most glamorous towns, welcomes the world's most glamorous yacht race, Les Voiles de St Tropez. Previously known as "La Nioulargue" it was called off in 1995 after a dramatic accident. It returned to our yachting calendars in 1999 and has been a highlight for many sailing enthusiast ever since.
Les Voiles de St Tropez is a sailing regatta. If you are lucky enough to have attended, you will quickly have realised that it is as much about the yachts as it is about the racing. This year, from September 29th to October 7th, most of the surviving 'J' and 'JI' class yachts from the Les Voiles golden age will congregate in the 'rade' of St Tropez to compete once more. The regatta draws both sailing enthusiasts as well as those who just appreciate a beautiful yacht. During the 9 days of racing St Tropez is taken over by luxury yacht charters, champagne receptions and social functions. If you are thinking of embarking on a Mediterranean yacht charter, Les Voiles de St Tropez is a fantastic stop over on your voyage.
There are also modern yachts that take part, and if you want the convenience of modern technology as well as the beauty of the 'J' class classics, there are some superb modern takes on the stunning models of yesteryear. There were only 10 'J' class yachts ever built and only nine of these have ever raced. These yachts rarely come up for sale, so if you want beauty and convenience, a modern interpretation of these extraordinary yachts could be the answer.
Yachting Partners International (YPI) currently has a beautiful re-creation of the Herreshof designed RAINBOW for sale, the yacht that won the America's Cup in 1934. The original was tragically scrapped in 1940 for $12,000, but such was her beauty and speed, a re-creation was inevitable. The Dutch-built S/Y RAINBOW JH2, at 39.95m (131.1') is a faithful re-production of the original, but with modern rigging, a unique hybrid propulsion system and a beautiful wood interior with contemporary details. RAINBOW JH2 will be attending this year's regatta.
The beautiful 34m (111') Dijkstra designed sloop currently for sale exclusively through YPI Brokerage will also be attending the regatta. With all the elegance of a 'J' class but with a more modern layout, S/Y ANNAGINE is possibly the perfect compromise between nostalgia and practicality; it would also make the ideal vessel to take a Mediterranean yacht charter on.
Those attending this year's regatta will be able to view both RAINBOW JH2 and ANNAGINE at anchor. Both yachts will also be in attendance at the Monaco Yacht Show 2012 this week, exclusively through YPI Brokerage. RAINBOW JH2 will be at T 28 on the quay at Port Hercules whilst ANNAGINE will be anchored within the bay with viewings conducted on request.
