AKRON, OH, October 10, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- There are several chores homeowners can tackle this fall to prepare themselves for a stress-free spring. These include preparing lawn mowers for winter, removing fallen leaves, storing outdoor furniture and staining wooden decks, fences and furniture.
While many of us are used to the routine maintenance of preparing for colder weather, we may not consider practical projects, such as deck staining, that will help us get ahead of our spring chores.
Here's how to get your deck-staining job done before the snow hits the ground:
- Before heading to the store, create a checklist to ensure you have all necessary supplies. Flood wood care offers a Staining Made Simple guide to make this easy at www.Flood.com.
- Fall weather can be tricky. Schedule your deck staining project when the weather is expected to be at least 50 degrees and dry for three days.
- Wet all plants and siding prior to using any chemical cleaners. Wet and rinse frequently during the application process.
- Don't rush! Take your time to do the project right. Read all label instructions. A little extra time on the project will lead to longer-lasting results. Find easy application instructions at Flood.com.
- Consider attaching the roller frames and covers to an extension pole or broom handle to reduce strain on your back.
- Use a five-gallon bucket with five-gallon paint roller grill rather than a paint pan. This provides for an easier project and reduces the chance of spill.
- Grab a partner - one person should roll the stain on while the other back brushes. This method not only saves time but it also allows for fewer errors.
- If you have to take a break before the project is complete, do so at a natural break in the project, where you will not have lap marks.
