CALVERTON, NY, October 16, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- After publishing 53 books with such well-established giants as Random House and HarperCollins, author Cynthia Baxter is publishing her 54th, a psychological suspense novel entitled The Housesitter, with a new type of publisher: one that markets books solely on the Web.
"Amazon and iTunes are in, bookstores are out," says Baxter, who currently writes mysteries and suspense but has also published women's fiction and young adult novels under the name Cynthia Blair. "As the old way of shopping for books goes the way of the dial telephone, it makes more and more sense to focus on reaching readers through the Internet. And for some reason, traditional publishers just aren't keeping up."
Dark Corridors
Baxter's new publisher, Dark Corridors, is marketing The Housesitter through Amazon, iTunes, and Barnes & Noble, leaving out the middleman of a bookstore. The book has also received most of its rave reviews online, mainly on websites that are popular with readers of the mystery and suspense genres.
"For some time now, readers have been responding to the intimacy and the immediacy of finding the books they can't wait to read online, rather than in stores," notes Vince Potenza, publisher and founder of Dark Corridors. "I started my mystery-and-suspense imprint in response, realizing how much more attractive a business model this is compared to dealing with shipping, damage, returns, and all the other complications that come with marketing books through retail stores. This way, we deal directly with the reader."
The Housesitter, which is filled with twists and turns and ends with a surprisingly jolt, is a natural follow-up to Baxter's successful nine-book mystery series, The Reigning Cats and Dogs Mysteries (published by Bantam Books), which features Long Island veterinarian Jessica Popper. The easiest to order Housesitter is through her website, http://cynthiabaxter.com/ (available as a paperback on Amazon.com and as an e-book on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iTunes). The two mystery series that made her a maven of mystery and suspense are also available on Amazon and other major book-selling websites.
