BOTHELL, WA, November 12, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Spine Institute Northwest has recently begun offering procedural videos of treatments and minimally invasive spine surgery procedures on the Institute's new YouTube channel. The videos will give patients and others an opportunity to learn more about back pain treatment options in an informative and educational environment.
"The doctors and staff at Spine Institute Northwest are experts in minimally invasive and laser spine surgery," says Dr. Solomon Kamson, MD, PhD, a Fellow of the American Academy of Minimally Invasive Spine Medicine & Surgery. "We not only perform these surgeries every day, we teach other doctors how to do them safely and effectively. Patients can watch these videos knowing they come from a trusted source."
One of the first videos posted on the new YouTube channel is entitled: "Lumbar Fusion and Facet Fixation Surgery". In this video, Dr. Kamson performs surgery on real patients, outlining the procedure step by step. The video features actual surgery footage, illustrative photographs, computer generated imaging, and more. Watching the video provides a real-life look at this complex procedure, bringing a deeper understanding of what will occur during surgery. Since the video shows footage from the endoscope, x-rays and more, it provides a view of the surgery that would otherwise be unattainable.
"Our goal is to provide the very best medical service and minimally invasive spine surgery in Seattle and throughout the nation," says Dr. Kamson. The procedure shown in the video is known as Oblique Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion (or OLLIF). This treatment is used to reestablish the height of a compressed disc and to stop movement which can lead to alleviating pain. This treatment utilizes multiple steps including: dilating the disc, inserting an access portal, assessing the situation using endoscopy, injecting bone graph to promote fusion and recovery and inserting facet screws for stabilization. Each step is clearly outlined and shown in this short video.
"While the YouTube channel is a relatively new development for The Spine Institute Northwest, being innovators in the spine care field is not," says Dr. Kamson. "This new YouTube channel and specifically the video on the OLLIF procedure are just the latest examples of how we help provide an exacting level of care and to better educate and inform patients. We're very excited to make these videos available to new and prospective patients."
The video can be seen on the Spine Institute Northwest's YouTube channel or by visiting the following link: http://youtu.be/4qKnIzKkm9w. The video is approximately five minutes in length.
