HOLLYWOOD, FL, November 11, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jacquelynn M. Hairston, MHA, an employee with the Florida Department of Health, has been selected as an Executive Member of the Covington Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Jacquelynn M. Hairston's commitment to excellence in Government and Public Health.
Hairston holds an AA in General Studies from Tallahassee Community College, a BS in Social Science with a Major in Sociology, a Minor in Urban and Regional Planning from Florida State University, and an MHA in Health Administration from the University of Phoenix. She has completed all but her dissertation for a PhD in Public Health from Walden University. Hairston's research interests are violence against women, maternal health, family violence, elder care issues, and health care disparities. She hopes to use her education to tackle issues affecting families and enhancing their quality of life which will be her contribution to social change.
Beginning in 1988, Hairston worked for the Leon County School Board in Tallahassee. In 1990, she was hired at the Florida Department of Corrections where she held several positions in records management for 14 years. She also worked at Florida State University before being hired in 2006 with the Florida Department of Health.
In her role, Hairston analyzes medical malpractice complaints, researches cases, and interviews complainants and licensees. She can evaluate and recommend changes to laws, rules, and regulations related to medical practice as well. She provides consumer education through correspondence and phone communication, consults with and serves as a liaison between professional boards, complainants, licensees, and consultants, and participates for in-service training programs.
"I was raised to always strive for the best in myself and to never give up in the face of adversity," Hairston said about her long, successful career. "This inspiration has given me the spirit and drive to go after my dreams even when others doubt that I can achieve the goals that I have set for myself."
Hairston has earned numerous awards over the years while employed at the Florida Department of Health, including Thanks a Million Awards from 2006-10, was nominated for an Employee Recognition Award in 2008, and received a State of Florida Davis Productivity Award in both 2008 and 2011. She's been a member of Phi Theta Kappa since 2004, and in 2011 began recording her first CD, currently entitled, "Changing the Game".
