2013 Will Be a Groundbreaking Year for Cycling in the French Alps

Most notably, 2013 marks the 100th year anniversary of Le Tour de France, which will highlight cycling in the Alps. For the first time in 10 years, the race will take place entirely in France. Viewers will have the opportunity to visit various UNESCO World Heritage sites along the way. The mythic 21-hairpin climb to Alpe d'Huez will be climbed twice during the race's 2013 edition.

Additionally, the 2013 Etape du Tour will take place on July 7th, 2013 in Annecy, which is often called the "Venice of the Alps." This race is organized by the ASO, which is the parent company of Le Tour de France. The Etape du Tour allows amateur cyclists to cycle on routes from the Tour. Another established event that is taking place in 2013 is the Marmotte Gran Fondo. This 174 km race is scheduled to start from the village of Bourg d'Oisans and finish in Alpe d'Huez. Thousands of cyclists participate in this annual event.
