Fishman Corporation began as The Philip Fishman Company in 1958 and was founded by Philip Fishman. It was one of the "original six" distributors for Semco Corporation, a manufacturer of plastic cartridges used for the dispensing of assembly fluids. The Philip Fishman Company was assigned the six New England states as a territory and was located in a small office in Wellesley, Massachusetts.

The name of the company was changed to Philip Fishman Corporation in 1976 when it was purchased by the Beebe family. The new ownership of Philip Fishman Corporation introduced the company's first manufactured line of benchtop pneumatic dispensers and the associated accessories in 1979. For the next 18 years Philip Fishman Corporation was successfully redefined from a regional distributor to an international manufacturer of world class fluid dispensing systems. In 1997, the name of the company changed to Fishman Corporation when it was transitioned to the second generation of the Beebe family.

For 35 years, all benchtop dispensing systems were powered by unreliable air pressure. In 2001, Fishman Corporation revolutionized fluid dispensing with the introduction of its patented LDS9000 AirFree dispensing technology. By replacing air pressure with the NoFlex Linear Drive System, dispensing repeatability from a syringe-style reservoir increased from +/-30% to +/-5%.
