CARLSBAD, NM, January 18, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Carlsbad begins 2013 with growth in both the industrial and retail sectors, according to reports from the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department in conjunction with the Carlsbad Department of Development (CDOD). Carlsbad has led New Mexico in retail growth for over four quarters, and has been the top producer of Oil and Gas for nearly 24 months.
"We are seeing trends of growth across the board," said Jeff Campbell, director of marketing and business development for the CDOD. "This is not new information. Ever since the recession that occurred two years ago, Carlsbad has been completely opposite the rest of the country. We have had businesses open and expand, we have seen heavy industrial activity, retail growth, and we have seen a housing shortage because of the oil and gas jobs drawing workers to our community."
Carlsbad currently has three major developers building apartment complexes on the north, central, and south sides of town. When completed, these complexes will offer nearly 800 units. In addition, there is a major housing builder with subdivisions across Carlsbad that plans on building approximately 450 homes when completed.
"In the last 24 months, we have seen Hampton Inn & Suites, Lowe's Home Improvement, Petsense, All American Cleaners, Sarina's Donuts, IHOP, Fairfield Inn & Suites, and Tractor Supply Company open in our market," said Campbell. "In addition, we have seen the oil and gas industry grow to employ approximately 3,200 people, and all of our industries (Potash, Nuclear, Manufacturing, Medical) are performing at very high levels. Carlsbad is in full growth mode."
The CDOD recently attended the International Council of Shopping of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Texas Conference and Deal making expo in Dallas, Texas. Over 3,000 site selectors and industry professionals were in attendance. The CDOD had a booth promoting Carlsbad.
"We have been attending this tradeshow since 2008, and for the second straight year we had site selectors coming to seek us out," said Campbell. "Carlsbad is starting to get noticed as a growing market."
