Canuck Completions is a Canadian-based developer and distributor of specialized tools for use in the oil and gas industry. Beginning his career in a warehouse position 23 years ago, and taking night and online classes to earn a degree, Mr. Athans has worked his way up through the ranks to become an expert-level operations manager. In his current position, he is responsible for setting up operations in the U.S., which includes configuring the sales infrastructure to ensure continued growth. Mr. Athans has experience in both domestic and international settings, having completed an overseas assignment in Algeria as one of his first forays into the industry.

Learning from his own experiences and the guidance of his father, who worked in the oil and energy field for some time, Mr. Athans gained the hands-on knowledge of working directly on rigs and developed managerial expertise that would allow him to understand numerous aspects of the business. Prior to joining Canuck, Mr. Athans was general manager of another well-known open hole completions company, which he expanded from zero to 250 employees and revenue exceeding $350 million in less than nine years. Now, in working with a small company, he looks forward to re-establishing the practice of apprenticeships to recruit and launch the careers of newcomers to the field. To this end, he set up recruiting and career path programs with several Universities including Montana Tech. It is this potential for growth and expansion that invigorates him and motivates him to continually strive for success.

Mr. Athans received a degree in applied science petroleum technology from Odessa College in 2003 and is a member of SPE. He contributes to such local charities as the Montgomery Food Bank and to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. An avid outdoorsman, he also enjoys running 5k races, bicycling, riding his Harley, and playing seasonal sports.
