University Mechanical Contractors, Inc. Expands Shareholder Group

The new ownership group represents the largest addition of new shareholders since 1995.



    MUKILTEO, WA, January 30, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- University Mechanical Contractors, Inc. (UMC) announced today the expansion of the current ownership group. Pat Damitio, UMC VP of Operations; Bryan Eppler, UMC Director of Strategic Development; Kirk Baisch, UMC Safety Director; David Malone, P.E., UMC Project Executive; and Steve Brooks, P.E., UMC Special Projects Manager have purchased shares in UMC. They join existing shareholders Jerry Bush, UMC President & CEO and Doug Smith, VP & CFO as owners of the 93 year old mechanical contracting company.

Pat Damitio has been with UMC for over 20 years. During that time, he led UMC's Industrial Group and worked on numerous key projects, most notably Brightwater Treatment Plant, Seattle Steam Wood-Waste, and Nucor Steel. Bryan Eppler has been with UMC for over 16 years, and his experience encompasses both large industrial and plan/spec markets. Kirk Baisch oversees UMC's safety program and has been with UMC for 6 years. His previous positions with Kiewit and MA Mortenson have provided a diverse background of regional safety leadership. Kirk has also led UMC to several industry safety awards over the past couple of years. David Malone, P.E. has been with UMC for over 20 years. During that time he led the UMC Engineering Group, and in 2012 transitioned to project executive. David has worked on a number of high-profile projects for UMC including Federal Center South, Swedish Issaquah, and Overlake Hospital Surgery Expansion and Medical Office Tower. Steve Brooks, P.E. has been with UMC for nearly 15 years. His project design and management expertise within the technical, medical, and biotech markets has helped UMC retain its leadership in those in those areas. Steve is also an advisor for Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and overseas research lab facility acquisition and development.

This expansion of ownership represents the largest addition of new shareholders since the Granston family sold UMC to seven employees in 1995, opening the company up to employee ownership.
