/24-7PressRelease/ - LONDON, UK, September 06, 2007 - Fujitsu Services, one of Europe's leading [url=http://www.fujitsu.com/uk/services/]IT services[/utl] companies, last week announced a 44m investment in a new high specification, green data centre near London.
The 65,000 square foot data centre will have the latest environmental features which, together with an IT modernisation programme, will save enough electricity to power up to 6,000 homes every year - equivalent to an annual saving of 10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
Fujitsu's new high-spec data centre will feature a low energy evaporation tower which cools water in the cooling system when the outside temperature is low. Combined with variable speed fans, pumps and heat exchangers, the amount of energy used to keep the IT systems cool will be considerably reduced - saving enough energy to power over 2,000 households every year.
Furthermore, Fujitsu has said it will reduce the power consumption of customer IT systems housed in the data centre by up to 50% through a programme of modernisation. This will potentially save enough power for up to 4,000 homes each year and allow considerable savings to be passed on to Fujitsu customers.
The new London data centre will appeal to companies and public bodies in the UK and Europe looking for an efficient data centre with a low environmental impact. It will also help ease the current shortage of data centres in London as currently many companies have reported data centre capacity problems, lengthy delays and local planning restrictions involved in building or extending their facilities.
Martin Provoost, Fujitsu Services' head of data centres said, "Companies have realised that expanding their data centres to cope with IT growth is expensive and wastes resources. They need lower costs and want their data centres and systems to be efficient and planet friendly. This new Fujitsu data centre provides the capacity the UK needs now and through our modernisation programme with our customers, we will drive out historic inefficiency in IT systems, reduce costs and create a sustainable green data centre environment."
