SUGAR LAND, TX, February 24, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- For a smile as big as the heart of Texas, don't you think it's time to consider giving your teeth the attention and care they deserve? At the offices of Dr's Fred Garrett and Richard Boyd you receive orthodontic treatment with a personal touch. Whether it's something as simple as a tooth out of alignment or something a more complex like overjets, openbites, and crossbites, Garrett-Boyd Orthodontics with two locations in Sugar Land and Rosenberg TX are committed to creating a "perfect-smile roadmap" for each of its patients.
Benefits of two-phase orthodontic treatment
Garrett-Boyd orthodontics offers "two-phase orthodontic treatment" for children with skeletal growth problems. It's a very specialized process that incorporates not only straightening the teeth but which also takes into consideration the physical and facial changes that occur while a patient is growing. This two-phase treatment is the "roadmap" we mentioned earlier: an opportunity to monitor and aim for healthy, functional and esthetically pleasing teeth at just the right time when children are developing.
Phase One - While Children are Growing
The goal of first phase treatment is to recognize and encourage jaw growth in order to accommodate all the permanent teeth. Realize that whether it's a child or an adult, jaw problems - if left untreated - can continue to evolve if not recognized and treated.
Proactive Treatment
Children with skeletal jaw problems due to allergies, enlarged tonsils and adenoids, finger habits, and hereditary factors can benefit enormously from an early orthodontic treatment utilizing appliances that direct the growth-relationship of the upper and lower jaws. The goal is to establish adequate room for expansion of all permanent teeth along with proper jaw alignment. This early correction may prevent later removal of permanent teeth to correct overcrowding and/or surgical procedures to align the upper and lower jaws. Leaving such a condition untreated could result in a jaw discrepancy too severe to achieve an ideal result with braces alone.
Keep in mind, that at the end of the first phase of treatment, teeth are not in their final positions. This will be determined and accomplished in the second phase of treatment after all the permanent teeth erupt. There are times when selective removal of certain primary (baby) teeth may be in the best interest of the patient in terms of enhancing teeth-expansion. Dr. Garrett and Dr. Boyd will review all your treatment options during your first complimentary consultation.
Phase Two - After Permanent Eruption
The goal of the second phase is to make sure each tooth it is in harmony with the jaws, lips, cheeks, tongue, and other teeth. When this equilibrium is established, the teeth will function together properly.
The second phase is initiated when all permanent teeth have erupted, and usually requires braces on all the teeth for an average of 24 months. Retainers are worn after this phase to ensure you retain your beautiful smile.
