JK Harris helps ease hardships for Kentucky couple

Kentucky couple receives tax help from JK Harris.

/24-7PressRelease/ - NORTH CHARLESTON, SC, September 27, 2007 - When James and Linda Martin of Mt. Sterling, Ky., began receiving notices from the IRS, they were worried. When they found out they owed $56,649.33 in back taxes and penalties on withdrawals they had made from their 401K, they really got nervous.

It was then that the Martins came to JK Harris, the nation's largest tax resolution firm, for help. They had been unaware that they should have reported withdrawals from their 401K on their tax forms, therefore, they had not paid tax on the withdrawals.

"JK Harris treated us with kindness, kept us advised and helped restore our dignity at a time when we really needed it. They were almost like family and gave us accurate and helpful advice along the way," said Linda Martin.

Because of ongoing financial hardships the Martins had faced, their JK Harris consultant determined that they were likely candidates for a Status 53 or "Currently Not Collectible." In order to qualify with the IRS for Status 53, a client must meet the IRS' determination regarding hardship. A hardship can be financial, medical, or due to unpredictable events such as natural disaster or unemployment.

Shortly after signing with JK Harris, the Martins received a notice of intent to levy from the IRS and Mr. Martin began working closely with his JK Harris Case Specialist. He wanted to understand his tax issues and to get all of the required documents submitted so that JK Harris could attempt to get the levy lifted and have the Martins designated as "Currently Not Collectible."

For the Martin family, things got worse before they got better. Mr. Martin fell victim to a serious medical condition. Mrs. Martin had not been actively working on their tax issues, as her husband had been the one in contact with JK Harris. The Case Specialist assigned to the Martins' case refreshed Mrs. Martin on everything that had been going on and guided her through what she would need to submit to assist in completing the paperwork for the Status 53.

"I really don't know how to express how much JK Harris helped us," Mrs. Martin said. "Thanks for everything, JK Harris."
While under CNC status, the taxpayer does not have to make any payments on their delinquent tax liability due to a lack of adequate income. Being declared Status 53 allows them to continue to provide for themselves and their family.

The IRS will continually monitor clients under a CNC and it can be changed back to "collectible" status if the taxpayer's income increases enough. Penalties and interest will continue to accrue during the period the taxpayer remains under Status 53.
