Beverly Hills Breast Augmentation Specialist Offers New Silicone Implants

The Natrelle 410 Highly Cohesive Anatomically Shaped Silicone-Gel filled implants just approved by the FDA may offer a more natural look and feel for women seeking breast augmentation.

LOS ANGELES, CA, March 30, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved a new type of silicone gel breast implant on February 20, 2013 for use in women age 22 and older seeking breast augmentation. Dr. David N. Sayah (http://www.davidsayah.com), a prominent Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, will be one of the physicians providing these implants.

"I'm always looking for the implants that give results that look and feel the most natural," explains Dr. Sayah, a breast augmentation specialist in Beverly Hills. "I definitely feel these new implants bring that to the table."

The new breast implants, manufactured by Allergan, Inc., are called Natrelle 410 Highly Cohesive Anatomically Shaped Silicone-Gel filled Implants. The manufacturer states that the silicone gel used in the Natrelle 410 implant models is firmer than earlier models, because it contains a greater level of cross-linking.

Cohesive silicone gel implants, sometimes dubbed "gummy bear implants" for their texture, have less potential for leakage compared to standard silicone gel, and better maintain their anatomically correct shape. Gummy bear implants also feel firmer to the touch, and feel more like natural breast tissue, according to women with gummy bear implants and their surgeons.

"Natural breasts have a soft, yielding texture to them," says Los Angeles plastic surgeon Dr. Sayah. "Cohesive gel implants are the closest we've gotten yet to mimicking the way natural breasts feel and move. That said, cohesive gel implants are less forgiving in terms of placement and require far more precision than saline implants."

The approval of Natrelle 410 implants was based on testing conducted over the past seven years, collecting data from 941 patients. The percentage of complications was no greater than using other forms of implants, including statistics on symmetry, post-operative infection, capsular contracture, breast surgery revision or implant removal. Observation will continue for five more years, combined with a 10-year study to examine long-term results.

Another cohesive silicone gel implant, manufactured by Sientra, was approved for use in 2012 in both a round profile and a natural shape. Although there are currently three manufacturers of silicone-gel implants in the United States, only Allergan and Sientra have received FDA approval for the manufacture and distribution of highly cohesive silicone gel implants.

"My practice is committed to remaining on the forefront of cosmetic surgery technology," adds Dr. Sayah. "As implant technology continues to evolve, our practice will remain a leader. For instance, women who want larger breasts but would rather not have implants still have an option at my practice: breast augmentation using an advanced fat transfer technique. The bottom line is that I encourage any woman who is unhappy with the look of her breasts to come in and discuss the available options during a private consultation."

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, breast augmentation was the most popular cosmetic procedure performed in 2012. Of these augmentations, 72 percent were performed using silicone implants, and 28 percent used saline.
