HOUSTON, TX, April 17, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Houston Mayor Annise Parker proclaims Saturday, April 27th, "National Foundation for Veteran Redeployment Day." It's a day that will bring Houston oil and gas companies together with veterans for a weekend of networking, competition, team building, and fun during the National Foundation for Veteran Redeployment's Energizer event at Rice Stadium.
The NFVR is a non-profit organization that helps veterans secure jobs in the oil and gas industry. The Energizer competition partners teams of industry representatives with veterans as they endure traditional military exercises that test both physical and mental capabilities while promoting camaraderie and raising awareness about the NFVR's mission.
"Transitioning back to civilian life is tough for many veterans," says Scot Cohen, Chairman of the Board of NFVR. "By helping individuals train for and obtain jobs in America's strongest and most robust industry, we are hoping to help to make the transition a little easier."
Over the past year, NFVR has placed nearly 100 veterans with companies thanks to the generous donations of supporters and close partnerships within the industry.
"I applaud NFVR for their dedication and commitment to our nation's veterans," says Congressman Pete Olson. (TX -22) "Our nation has an obligation to ensure a smooth transition from the battlefield to the civilian workforce. Employing veterans in the oil and gas industry means high paying jobs for people with the unique skills and discipline needed in the energy industry. The efforts that are being employed by NFVR to match veterans with good paying energy jobs is a win/win for our veterans and our economy."
Congressman Olson, Rice University President David Leebron, and members of the Houston Rockets are expected to attend.
The Energizer competition will be held Saturday, April 27 at Rice Stadium from 9 am until noon. The event is closed to the public. Therefore, prior registration is required. A welcome party will be held April 25, 7:30pm, at Red Door in Midtown, located at 2416 Brazos Street.
