NORTHVILLE, MI, April 17, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Northville Eclipse Base Ball Club , a Metro Detroit vintage base ball team, today announced its 2013 playing schedule. The new season, running from May 11 through September 15, features eight home games at the team's playing field at Ford Field, adjacent to historic Mill Race Village at 215 Griswold St. in Northville.
Featured events this year include the Silas Pierce Cup Tournament in Grand Rapids. The team will play in a series of games at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. During the Fourth of July, the team will host a holiday game and be part of the annual parade in Downtown Northville.
The Northville Eclipse members include Len "Dutch" Baron, Larry "LoneStar" Bird, Chuck "Paddy" Burke, Dennis "Stitch" Haggerty, Jim Haggerty, Ron "Crusher" Klein, Dan "Mac" McEvill, Jason "Tex" Miller, Sue "Goose" Miller, David "Bender" Newhouse, Keith Polakowski, Natalie Polakowski, Al "Toes" Smitley, Carl "Doc" Szumlanski, Joe "Cuppa Joe" Tomassi, Greg "TinMan" Weidenbach and Julian "Frisco" Zendejas. Denise "Frenchy" LaMotte is the team's tally keeper.
Vintage base ball is not only a competitive game; it's a tribute to the sport and similar to an American Civil War reenactment. This version of the sport is considered a true gentlemen's game without swearing, sliding, spitting or any sort of playing gloves.

All Eclipse home games attract "cranks" (team fans) and visitors to the Mill Race Historical Village, a focal point for the Northville Community that preserves architectural styles common to the area prior to 1900. The Village is located on 12.5 acres of land donated by the Ford Motor Company, and it includes an inn, blacksmith shop, school, church and rustic wooden bridge.
