TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA, April 18, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Wendy McCreary, Director of the NHL Alumni Association, was recently named a VIP member of Worldwide Who's Who. This special distinction honors individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to achieving personal and professional success.
Ms. McCreary has 13 years of experience as the director of the NHL Alumni Association. Her areas of expertise include her ability to interact with others, organizational and management skills and her ability to communicate well. Her day-to-day responsibilities involves running BreakAway Program (www.nhlabreakaway.net), through which she builds education, career, mentorship, and counseling programs to assist NHL players in their transition to retirement. She is also tasked with event management, fundraising, networking with other organizations and sponsorship. The NHL Alumni Association is a nonprofit organization that endeavors to assist in youth hockey initiatives, assists former NHL players as they transition to life after hockey and promote the game in general. Prior to joining the NHL Alumni Association, Ms. McCreary was with the economic development office for the Town of Caledon.
For Ms. McCreary, professional hockey is a part of her family's legacy. Her father, Keith McCreary, played in the league for a decade. Upon his retirement, he was one of the co-founders and eventually the chairman of the NHL Alumni Association. In addition, Ms. McCreary has two uncles, Bill McCreary Sr., and Ron Attwell and three cousins, Bob Attwell, Bill McCreary Jr. and Greg Theberge) who played in the NHL, and one cousin, Bill McCreary, who was an NHL referee. As a result, she was uniquely qualified to understand the transitional issues players go through when they retire from professional hockey.
Ms. McCreary attributes her success to a number of factors, including her father's respect and adoration for the game and his peers, her compassion, perseverance, dedication, motivation, and passion for the NHL.
When she isn't busy with the Alumni Association, Ms. McCreary enjoys her cottage, outdoor activities, playing all sports and, of course, watching hockey. In addition, she supports the Canadian Cancer Society and "Hockey's Greatest Family." In five years, Ms. McCreary would like to launch additional programs to help further her father's legacy and the great game of hockey.
