TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA, April 24, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Brett Marchand, Vice President of Six Sigma - Supply Chain for Maple Leaf Foods, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in food manufacturing.
At Maple Leaf Foods, Mr. Marchand develops and applies the company's Six Sigma practice in areas such as supply chain management, human resources, sales and marketing, finance, food safety and quality assurance. Leading a team of Six Sigma black belts, he participates in continuous improvement initiatives, strategic projects and process re-engineering projects. Maple Leaf Foods is a manufacturer that distributes prepared meats, pasta and baked goods.
Mr. Marchand has spent nearly two years in his current role of vice president of the Six Sigma - Supply Chain and prior to this he held the role of Vice President Supply Chain for Maple Leaf's frozen Bakery Division. In addition to supply chain, his areas of expertise include logistics transportation, demand planning, change management, organizational design, warehousing and business coaching. Prior to joining his present company, Mr. Marchand worked as a supply chain director for The International Group Inc. and as a logistics officer for Canadian Armed Forces.
Recognized for his leadership skills, Mr. Marchand retired in 1997 from the Canadian Armed Forces after a successful 20-year career. During his tenure, he went from being a private radio technician in the Air Force to joining the Army's Logistics Branch as a commissioned officer. Committed to lifelong learning, Mr. Marchand attributes his success to a passion for his work. He first experiences in supply chain were steeped in the critical nature of the army logistics function and have impacted his approach to his work throughout his civilian career. By adding the disciplined problem solving approach of 6 Sigma to his experiences Mr. Marchand was able to significantly enhance his ability to effectively improve the ROI of a company's supply chain.
Mr. Marchand received a Bachelor of Arts in economics and commerce at the Royal Military College. In addition to graduating with first class honours, he was awarded the Governor Generals Medal for Economics. Outside of work, he participates in organizations such as Treble Victor through which he volunteers to assist veterans to find meaningful employment, and the Canadian Industrial Transportation Association. In his free time, Mr. Marchand enjoys all things sports, as well as fitness and reading.
