PALO ALTO, CA, May 13, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- CyDesign Labs announced the completion as a performer in the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Fast Adaptable Next-Generation (FANG) Vehicle Mobility/Drivetrain Challenge through the delivery a Cloud-based system modeling platform made available to challenge registrants. All FANG registrants were invited to use CyDesign Studio to create vehicle concepts that address various system-level requirements and to simulate the behavior and performance of these concepts. Users were then able to perform complex trade space analyses by mapping simulation results to those requirements--all within CyDesign Studio.
"Tying requirements to performance simulation results is fundamental to ensuring that only the best designs are pursued through detailed design work," stated Serdar Uckun, CEO and Founder of CyDesign Labs. "By stress-testing the CyDesign Studio architecture under the pressure of the FANG Challenge, we demonstrated our capacity to deliver a reliable and compelling product to prospective commercial customers. We'll release CyDesign Studio for commercial use in the next quarter."
The winner of the DARPA FANG Challenge was awarded a $1 million prize. More than 1,000 participants and 200 teams vied for the prize, according to DARPA, in a press release dated April 22, 2013.
Registrants used a special FANG edition of CyDesign Studio to conceive, design and verify their concepts. By making CyDesign Studio available to FANG registrants, CyDesign Labs gained real-world validation for key performance objectives of the platform:
- An integrated workflow for requirements-driven trade space analysis enabling users to evaluate and compare simulation results from multiple designs and to allow users to make informed decisions about which concepts merit further development
- A compositional modeling approach powered by the Modelica language helped shield the underlying math and physics from users so that non-experts could generate and study concept designs without additional coding
- A guided construction methodology of design patterns that automates complex math and physics techniques so that non-engineers can generate and study concept designs
- A secure, collaborative platform in the Cloud delivering on-demand, high-performance computing for large-scale simulation and analysis while providing a high level of information security to protect sensitive information
- Zero install, on-demand access to a high-performance system modeling platform using a web-based interface to maximize engineering productivity
About CyDesign Labs, Inc.
CyDesign Studio is the only model-based design optimization platform with integrated requirements management that enables organizations to design complex systems with better, faster results. The CyDesign platform helps engineers gather requirements, link them to system designs, explore the trade space of design alternatives, assess the viability of these alternatives, and provide objective guidance resulting in a much better final product. Privately-held CyDesign Labs has over 30 employees in its Palo Alto, CA, USA headquarters and its offices in Coventry, UK. The company was founded in 2011.
