SWEDESBORO, NJ, May 14, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The aftermath of recent horrific events such as the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut and most recently, the bombing at the Boston Marathon has many of us concerned about security and most importantly, school security. While there is nationwide debate on what is the most important factor and it will differ based on whether you are a gun control activist, civil rights group, the NRA (National Rifle Association) or politicians, the fact remains the same that many parents are concerned about the growing violence happening in our nation's schools.
According to the CDC, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, The first step in preventing school violence is to understand the extent and nature of the problem. In the CDC's Youth Violence Facts at a Glance, 20.1% reported being bullied on school property in the 12 months preceding the survey. Doesn't this suggest that our children need support in peer to peer relationships, self esteem and alternative strategies for controlling our anger.
"I know watching the events of Newton, Ct. unfold changed me forever. I am a father of two elementary school aged children and when I put them on the bus in the morning, I need to expect they are safe," said Kris Wilson, owner of MVP Minds LLC.
"As a responsible parent, I want to do everything I can to contribute to the safety of our schools." MVP Minds LLC has created innovative ways to address 3 components of our school safety crisis - solving long term funding issues for schools, increasing self-image of school aged children, and fostering community support.
Funding is a major part of the equation for school security. According to an article by Meredith Jessup, officials of Newtown Connecticut had to put an extra $770,000 in the school and town budgets to hire extra police officers and unarmed security guards. Most schools are trying to find ways to pay for textbooks, how do we expect them to come up with additional funds in this economy for items needed for enhanced security.
"We feel it is going to take the support of parents, families and community members as a whole in creating innovative ways that will increase school security and begin to change this growing trend of violence in our nation's schools," said Mr. Wilson. MVP Minds is hosting national conference calls to discuss the solutions to the increasing growing problem of long term funding issues for schools, increasing self-image of school aged children, and fostering community support.
