Men infected with syphilis sought out - and paid a high price for - young girls, hoping that sex with a virgin would cure them of the disease. The callous infection of innocent females as young as twelve with a horrific and deadly disease is sadly not something that belongs to history; regrettably, in some parts of the world today this practice continues - though the disease is now likely to be AIDS.
