LONDON, ENGLAND, May 22, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- World leading speaker bureau Speakers Corner is delighted to announce that it has added three new names to the already impressive list of over 6,000 speakers with whom it cooperates. They join the biggest names in entertainment, sport and business and politics, ready to entertain with their witty and insightful addresses that will add spark to any function.
Joining the Speakers Corner books as a keynote speaker with a special interest international politics and security, award-winning journalist Misha Glenny is an expert on organised crime and cyber security. He gained his credentials in the 1990s as Central Europe correspondent first for the Guardian and then for the BBC, covering the Yugoslav wars. He is the author of several books including "McMafia: A Journey Through the Global Criminal Underworld", in which he suggested that international organised crime could account for some 15% of the world's GDP. Misha has also acted as a policy adviser to the US and other governments and has taught a course "Crime in Transition" as a visiting professor at the Harriman Institute, Columbia University. A trained actor, he speaks with vitality and passion adding intelligent humour.
Also new to the esteemed Speakers Corner roster is Hans Rosling. He is the co-founder of both the Swedish branch of Medecins Sans Frontieres, the international medical and humanitarian aid organisation, and the Gapminder Foundation, which is dedicated to promoting sustainable global development and fighting ignorance by offering easily understandable fact-based world views. Hans studied medicine and statistics in his native Sweden and became a District Medical Officer in Mozambique, where he discovered a previously unrecognised paralytic disease that he and his team later named Konzo. He then spent 20 years studying outbreaks of the disease in remote areas across Africa. An award-winning lecturer, Hans speaks on economic, social and environmental change using animation as his primary tool. He is a passionate and enthralling speaker - and is also a sword swallower, so audiences may get a touch of cabaret too.
Former Olympic athlete Derek Redmond is the latest personality Speakers Corner are now working with. One of Britain's finest 400 metre runners, he won European and Commonwealth gold medals with the British 4 x 400 metre relay team but his career was dogged by injury. At the 1988 Seoul Olympics he had to withdraw 90 seconds before he was due to race in the first heat of the 400 metres due to an Achilles tendon injury and, four years later in Barcelona, snapped a hamstring half way through his semi-final. He won a standing ovation from the crowd as he limped across the finish line with the help of his father. In 1994, having been told that he would never run or represent his country at sport again, he turned his attention to basketball and made the British national team. He then took up rugby and played at the top level; he trialled for the England Sevens team but did not make the side. He also enjoys motorcycle racing and is now co-owner of a Superbike team. Derek is a brilliant motivational speaker and draws on his own experiences to captivate his audiences.
