William J. Hayes Jr. Recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Culinary Arts

    WILMINGTON, DELAWARE, May 22, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- William J. Hayes Jr., Chef, Operations Manager, and Owner of Delaware Provision Company, Inc., has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in culinary arts.

Mr. Hayes has developed an expertise in recipe preparation. His responsibilities include managing the operations, including production, sanitation, distribution and logistics. He must also maintain the facilities, cook for catering events and manage the processing facility.

Kathleen and Sam Lavery, Mr. Hayes' aunt and uncle, started Delaware Provision Co., in 1970, in New Castle, Del. It originally was a wholesale distributor of deli meats, cheeses, spices, dry goods and other provisions, for the mom and pop shops and pizza stores. In 1980, they bought out Barczewski's Meat Market in Wilmington, which made homemade Polish sausage products. Throughout the 1980s, they made sausage and distributed provisions throughout Delaware.

Mr. Hayes started working in the business part-time when he was a high school student and fell in love with it. He then went on to culinary school, and with his knowledge and family recipes, the company grew. Sam and Kathleen dabbled in catering throughout the 1990s, and Mr. Hayes picked up on that side of the business. He decided to make catering the main direction of the company.

The business caters baptisms to funerals, and eveything in between. During the spring and summer months, the company participates every week at the Milford Famers Market, where it sells its special sausage products and meats. It is also taking this opportunity to hand out their menus, which has resulted in a tremendous amount of business from the area.

Mr. Hayes attributes his success to his education and the support he receives from his family. The most gratifying aspect of his career is maintaining the ability to experiment in his kitchen and create new menu ideas. He intends to expand his business by adding a second downstate location and continuing to utilize farmers markets, social networking and business relationships.

Mr. Hayes has been recognized numerous times by World Wide Who's Who: He was a Professional of the Year in Culinary Arts, featured in Pro-Files Magazine, a two-time VIP member, and profiled in the "Top 101 Industry Experts" book.

Mr. Hayes received associate degrees in food service management and culinary arts in 2008, and in hotel, restaurant and institution management, graduating magna cum laude, in 2004, both from the Delaware Technical & Community College. He was on the Dean's and President's List twice each at the college.

He is a member of the First State Chefs Association, which is part of the American Culinary Federation. He was featured in the article "Delaware Provision Hits its Crazy Time," in 2008 and "Sausages are a Link to the Past: Meat Merchants Have the Polish Touch if Not the Polish Heritage" in 2007 in The News Journal in Delaware. He has done charity work for St. Elizabeth's Roman Catholic Parish.
