History Associates Writes the Updated History of the Fort Worth District Army Corps of Engineers

    ROCKVILLE, MD, June 07, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- History Associates, the leading U.S. historical services firm, is pleased to announce the publication of Changes, Challenges, Champions: A History of the Fort Worth District Army Corps of Engineers, 2000 - 2011. This book builds on prior histories written about the District that covered events from inception through 1999.

This book covers a decade of intense, transformative challenges met by the District - from its response to the Canyon Lake Flood of July 2002; through the reorganization efforts required as a result of the Base Realignment and Closure Commission; to the recovery and relief response to natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina.

The nine-month project was led by Senior Historian James P. Rife. To develop the story, Mr. Rife and History Associates researchers thoroughly investigated the archival records of the District and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and then supplemented their research with secondary sources such as books, newspapers, and trade publications. Mr. Rife also conducted more than a dozen oral history interviews with key figures from the District's history. The well-documented book includes historic photographs, appendices, endnotes, and a complete bibliography.

Mr. Rife is a public historian with wide experience in military, naval, and Native American history. His published works include The Sound of Freedom: U.S. Naval Weapons Technology at Dahlgren, Virginia, 1918-2005, published in 2007, as well as Caring & Curing: A History of the Indian Health Service and Bridges to Baghdad: The U.S. Navy Seabees in the Iraq War, both of which were published in 2009.
