The Artist's Alcove was started by Ms. Ray in 2008. It is an art retail shop that is comprised of her work, as well as artwork from 13 other artists in the local community.
Ms. Ray has 21 years of experience as an artist, with five years as the owner of The Artist's Alcove. As an artist, her medium of choice is acrylic painting, and she specializes in wide-varied subject matter such as landscapes, portraits, wildlife, birds and domestic pets. As a business owner, her responsibilities include opening the store, processing all transactions, and interacting with other artists. Ms. Ray attributes her success to being passionate about the work that she does. She became involved in her profession five years ago after deciding to sell some of her artwork at a Christmas market in a local mall.
Ms. Ray became a registered nurse through Victoria Hospital in 1971, and she is a member of The Arts Council. To benefit the less fortunate, she contributes to Relay for Life. When she is not managing her business, she enjoys playing the piano, taking auto-harp lessons, and spending time with her grandchildren. In five years, Ms. Ray would like to have a permanent brick-and-mortar spot.
