Ms. Sawyer became interested in acupuncture and oriental medicine after herbs saved her life while traveling. She was staying with a family in a small village in Nepal when she contracted a skin infection that required antibiotics. Since there were no western medicines in the village, the mother of her host family used herbal medicine to keep the infection under control. When Ms. Sawyer returned home she found out the herbal medicine had saved her life. Soon after that, Ms. Sawyer enrolled in a Master of Science program in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Upon graduation, she opened Beautiful Ama Acupuncture in St. Paul, MN.

Beautiful Ama Acupuncture specializes in sports medicine acupuncture for athletes who want to improve performance by increasing strength, stamina, endurance, post-workout recovery and healing from musculoskeletal injuries. A former biomedical engineer, Ms. Sawyer earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota after earning her Associate of Science degree in Pre-Engineering. After herbal medicine saved her life, she earned a Master of Science degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the American Academy of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. She has an acupuncture license from the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice and is certified as a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine by NCCAOM. She is a member of the The Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Association of Minnesota and is a volunteer with Acupuncturists Without Borders.
