OREM, UT, June 18, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Seventy-eight percent of providers using telehealth today report that they are focusing their energy on 5 of more than 38 telehealth disciplines, suggesting that providers feel those disciplines may offer the greatest return on investment. The KLAS report entitled Telehealth: Piecing the Puzzle Together reveals that providers are focusing on at least one of the following disciplines: home monitoring, psychiatry, stroke, neurology, and ICU.
Findings in the report reveal insights into the vendors and technologies that are the most utilized and where providers anticipate growing their investments.
"Not only are providers adopting telehealth services at an increasing rate, but 81 percent of interviewed providers told us that they will be making future investments," said report author Erik Bermudez. "They feel that telehealth is one of the keys to cost-effectively caring for the growing population in the face of population health and accountable care. This report looks into how they intend to make that happen."
KLAS' telehealth study also reveals what challenges providers using telehealth technologies are facing. Reimbursements, EHR data integration, and the development of a sustainable telehealth strategy were the most common challenges among the providers KLAS spoke with.
As part of the study, KLAS interviewed health systems that are utilizing or have plans to utilize telehealth technology in some manner. The vendors discussed in the report include Cerner, Cisco, Epic, Honeywell, InTouch, Philips, Polycom, and 31 others.
