Eric 'Lou' Vance, Ph. D., Named a Worldwide Who's Who Professional of the Year for Excellence in Scientific Research

    NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA, July 10, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Eric 'Lou' Vance, Ph.D,, Chief Research Scientist, Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, has been named a Worldwide Who's Who Professional of the Year in Scientific Research. While inclusion in Worldwide Who's Who is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Who's Who membership.

Mr. Vance is acknowledged for his invaluable contributions to the nuclear waste industry with his 45 years of experience. He worked in several post-doctorate positions for various countries until he saw a newspaper article from Canberra, Australia, with the headline "Nuclear Waste Problem Solved," while in the U.S. He decided to travel up to The Pennsylvania State University and look for a job in the field. For the past 25 years, he has worked as a chief research scientist for ANSTO, a nuclear science and technology national laboratory. In his position, he plans and conducts experiments to increase knowledge of the immobilization of nuclear waste. He also develops new ideas and analyzes the results of his experiments, keeping an accurate record of his work. An accomplished individual, he credits his success to working in a wide variety of areas in the physical science, glass, ceramics and concrete industries. Looking ahead, he wants to share his experimental techniques with the rest of the world.

Mr. Vance earned a Ph.D. in solid state physics from Monash University in 1968. He retains affiliations as a fellow of the Institute of Australian Ceramic Society, the American Ceramic Society, the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and as an academician of the World Academy of Ceramics. Aside from his career, Mr. Vance enjoys playing golf, tennis and running.
