POMPANO BEACH, FL, July 14, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Affecting more than 2.2 million Americans, Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness. However, only half of the people with glaucoma even know they have it. Glaucoma is a group of conditions that causes damage in the eye's optic nerve and is often associated with increased pressure inside the eye. However, the condition develops very slowly and often times goes unnoticed until it reaches an advanced stage.
Sometimes described as the "silent thief of the night", there are virtually no noticeable symptoms or pain associated with the most common form of glaucoma. In many cases, individuals do not notice the condition until significant vision loss has occurred. Early detection, through regular check ups and testing, is crucial and subsequent treatment will minimize nerve damage and limit vision loss leading to blindness.
"Outlook with Ben Kingsley" will shine a light on Glaucoma and educate the viewers on the importance of early detection and treatment. The "Outlook" Series will also feature medical professionals treating patients with conditions ranging from minimal vision loss to blindness.
The series is distributed to Public Television stations throughout the United States and is not distributed through PBS. Please visit the Outlook website at www.outlooktelevision.com or email the producers at [email protected] for more information.
