/24-7PressRelease/ - CHICAGO, IL, November 04, 2007 - When Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile Hotel found out that their city was to host the first leg of the Children's Miracle Network's torch relay, they decided to get creative with their support and fundraising.
The Children's Miracle Network is an alliance of 170 hospitals nationwide that treat over 17 million children, annually, with life threatening illnesses. The Torch Relay which took place on Friday, October 26, 2007, is their walk to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network.
Every department at this luxury Chicago family hotel rallied behind the cause and held a wide variety of activities to raise money for the event. "We are so proud of the team that we have at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile," states Doug Ridge, General Manager of the hotel. "When we decided to sponsor this worthy cause we never expected the amount of support we would receive from every single member of our team. It truly was an event to remember and every person had a part to play."
The Event Management team held a rummage sale along with selling cocktails for kids, while the Sales Department held an Affy Tapple sale, a L'Oreal Facial Care sale, an American Girl Doll raffle, and collected coins for kids. Housekeeping hosted a bake sale along with selling handmade tamales, which proved to be a hit, while Food & Beverage sponsored a pie throwing contest and sold bread pudding and sundaes for the charity. Engineering also held a television raffle to support The Children's Miracle Network.
The most outrageous fundraising event at this acclaimed hotel in downtown Chicago, Illinois was that George McDade, the Director of Loss Prevention offered to shave his head for $1,000. When he reached that goal, he then set the bar at $2,000 and promised to shave off his mustache as well. Needless to say, the $2,000 was raised and he happily shaved his head and mustache to support this worthy cause.
In total, this enthusiastic Chicago luxury hotel raised over $17,300 to donate to the Children's Miracle Network Torch Relay.
