WASHINGTON, DC, August 14, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The President of Nicaragua's National Commission of Sugar Producers, Mario Amador, confirmed that Nicaragua is ready to export 40,000 tons of sugar to Europe as part of the association agreement which came into force early August.
The sugar sector will do the first electronic auction on August 19th where 35 European buyers interested in buying sugar from Nicaragua are already registered.
"This means that one of Central America's most important products will be witnessing the first shipment leaving Nicaragua to ports in Europe", commented Mr. Amador.
According to the Minister of Development, Industry and Trade of Nicaragua, Orlando Solorzano, the association agreement between the European Union and Central America is beneficial to the economy of Nicaragua because the European market is the fourth importer in volume of goods from Nicaragua.
"Nicaragua has potential to increase its agricultural production in order to penetrate the European market, in addition to raising the quality and competitiveness of the goods to be accepted" commented Solorzano.
The association agreement between the European Union and Central America came into force on August 1st in Nicaragua, Honduras and Panama and seeks to expand trade between the two regions.
