MONTROSE, MI, August 16, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- EnviroFry Environmental Hygienists recommend do-it-yourself mold testing using Scotch tape lift sampling, inexpensive Petri lab dishes, and physical bulk samples of mold growth and indoor air quality in homes, apartments, and workplaces anywhere in the USA, Canada, Asia, and worldwide.
To find and document hidden mold growth problems and to identify and quantify what toxic mold species are present in collected mold samples, mold consultant Phillip Fry recommends that property owners, managers, and occupants take these two necessary mold testing steps:
(1) physical collection of mold samples from the home, apartment, or commercial or public building being mold tested; and
(2) mold laboratory analysis and mold species identification of the collected mold samples by an experienced and accredited mold analysis laboratory.
How to do affordable mold testing with Scotch tape, Petri dishes, and actual building mold growth samples is explained in detail by Mr. Fry at http://www.moldexpertconsultants.com/diy_mold_testing.htm. Fry is a Certified Environmental Hygienist, Certified Mold Inspector, and Certified Mold Remediator.
Follow these steps for do-it-yourself Scotch tape lift sampling---
(1) Use inexpensive, clear, transparent, sticky, one inch wide adhesive tape such as Scotch brand or similar tape that you cut into three inch long strips to collect the mold samples.
(2) While doing lift tape sampling, wear disposable gloves, eye goggles with no holes ("chem splash"), and a low-cost N-95 breathing mask. More mold testing safety tips are posted at http://www.moldinspector.com/mold_removal.htm.
(3) Record each Scotch tape lift sample and any other do-it-yourself mold tests onto a chain of custody lab form, such as the form posted at http://www.moldinspector.com/chain_of_custody.htm. The Chain of Custody is the mold laboratory form that is completed by the mold tester, and it serves to document both the transfer of custody of the mold samplings directly from the tester to the mold lab, and the receipt of the samples by the lab.
(4) On the chain of custody form, include each lift tape sample's exact location, such as "master bedroom ceiling", "top of kitchen cabinets", "west wall of master bedroom", "living room carpet", and "living room HVAC duct register".
(5) When testing a surface, press the sticky side of the tape firmly against or onto the tested surface.
(6) After sampling, peel back the tape carefully and lightly tack the mold sampling tape onto the inside wall of a small, sealable plastic storage bag.
(7) Attach to the outside of the storage bag an adhesive label with the mold tester's name, contact information, date of sampling, property address, and the precise building test location.
(8) Mail or FedEx your Scotch tape lift samples, Petri dish mold test kits, and/or physical mold growth samples ("bulk samples") to your selected certified and accredited mold analysis lab.
