Colleen Metge Inducted into Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Health Services Research & Evaluation

    WINNIPEG, MANITOBA, September 6, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Colleen J. Metge, Director of Research and Evaluation for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in health services research, evaluation and pharmacoepidemiology.

Nearly five years ago, Dr. Metge became Director of the Research and Evaluation Unit for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. During the course of her daily routine, she works in a research unit that is embedded within the region, and manages ten colleagues (six with PhDs). In addition, she evaluates regional initiatives and supports the needs of decision makers for being informed with evidence. Dr. Metge's academic and scholarly work is in the area of osteoporosis, primarily by using large administrative databases to answer questions and observe trends.

Prior to obtaining her current position, Dr. Metge was a professor in the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Pharmacy for 14 years. She obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland focusing on pharmaceutical policy and the use of applied welfare economics to understand persons willingness-to-pay for pharmacist services . She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Alberta (Edmonton AB). Dr. Metge remains professionally affiliated with pharmacy through the Canadian Association for Population Therapeutics, where she is the treasurer, as well as the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology. Thus far, she has gained a breadth of experience in the areas of pharmaceutical policy, health services research and evaluation. Looking ahead, Dr. Metge would like to conclude her career knowing that she kept the idea of an embedded research and evaluation unit alive. On retirement from her current position she will continue to work in the consulting field. She will use her skills in developmental evaluation to aid in innovation in health care.
