HOUSTON, TX, September 07, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Pearland Theatre Guild's first drama of the 2013-2014 season, Anne Frank and Me, running September 27 - October 13, 2103 at the Pearl Theatre, will be told by a young, spirited cast.
The youngest member of the cast, 11-year old Hailey Loog of Pearland, TX, who plays Liz-Bette, says being a part of Anne Frank and Me has changed her life forever. Loog is two years younger than Ann Frank at the time her family went into hiding in 1942.
Before casting the youngest actors, director Renee van Nifterik spoke to parents about the emotional weight of the play and subject matter.
When the play opens Nicole Burns lives in a teen world of MTV, hip-hop dancing, unfinished homework assignments, and young love. In a dream sequence, Nicole transports us into the dangerous world of Nazi-occupied Paris of the 1940s, where her family and friends are forced into hiding for two years living on the edge of discovery and death. At the conclusion of the play, Nicole returns to the light and hope of the present and the awakening of a young girl.
"Anne Frank and Me gives actors a tremendous opportunity to work on complex and meaty roles. Parents expressed how important they felt the play was and wanted their children to be a part of such a significant piece," says van Nifterik. "It's inspirational to see parents tackle the subject matter and openly discuss it with their kids."
This gripping, multi-award winning play was taken from a 2001 novel by Cherie Bennett and Jeff Gottesveld. Bennett adapted the story for the stage.
