Grammar Tips from Prompt Proofing: We're With Churchill!

    VANCOUVER, BC, September 06, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Following on from last month's post about whether or not it is OK to split infinitives, we look at another questionable grammar rule - 'thou shalt not end a sentence with a preposition'.

Really?

Try rearranging these to avoid ending with a preposition:

She had no idea what she was taking on.

The meeting was called off.

Tricky, right?

Famously, Sir Winston Churchill, annoyed at an enthusiastic proofreader who pointed out this supposed grammatical error, responded by saying: "This is the kind of pedantic nonsense up with which I will not put!"

The story may be apocryphal (word of the day - here's its meaning!) but I choose to believe it - and I'm with Churchill on this one!
