JK Harris Helps Resuscitate Physician's Financial Future

    /24-7PressRelease/ - NORTH CHARLESTON, SC, November 15, 2007 - When Dr. Steve Morris III was sent an audit notice by the IRS for tax years 2001 and 2002, he saw his financial future flash before his eyes.

Dr. Morris' tax returns for those years triggered an audit by the IRS. He tried negotiating with the IRS on his own, but to no avail. When he realized his problems were complicated and the IRS was threatening him with wage garnishment and liens, he contacted JK Harris.

His already complex case was further complicated by the fact that the years in question represented two of the years he owned a medical practice in the state of Mississippi. When the practice was closed, the records from his practice were put into storage in Mississippi and in 2005, Hurricane Katrina damaged the storage unit. Dr. Morris had to travel from Florida to Mississippi to go through the records. Of the records he was able to find, many were damaged by water.

After securing his corrected tax returns from his accountant and having JK Harris assist him through the audit, it was determined that Dr. Morris owed $310,291 in back taxes, penalties and interest. JK Harris found that the IRS had made adjustments to the audit, but no explanations were provided to JK Harris for the adjustments. Morris' case was then transferred to a new Revenue Agent. JK Harris' audit team appealed the IRS' adjustments and asked for the case to be reviewed. Once the case was made to the IRS, it was found that mistakes were made in some of the IRS' computations. Due to the audit team's persistence, JK Harris was able to lower Dr. Morris' tax liability to $112,625, saving him over $197,000.
