The Best Autumn Events at London's Victoria & Albert Museum

    LONDON, ENGLAND, September 20, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- This autumn London's Victoria and Albert Museum presents a major exhibition on 'Pearls' (21st September 2013 - 19th January 2014), and 'Masterpieces of Chinese Painting' (26th October 2013 - 19th January 2014), the largest and most ambitious exhibition of its kind, displaying the largest number of paintings from China from 700AD to 1900 ever presented together. A major new V&A commission, 'Tomorrow' by Nordic artists Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset opens this autumn transforming the museum's former Textile Galleries into an apartment belonging to a fictional architect. Visitors can read books and inhabit the spaces left by its owner as if visiting the set of an unperformed play while reading a script written by the artists.

Later in the month, from 26th October 2013, 'Masterpieces of Chinese Painting' will give visitors the chance to see some exceptional examples of Chinese painting from the beginning of the 8th century to the end of the 19th century. This will be the first time an exhibition of this scale has been displayed in the UK on this topic since 1935 when the Royal Academy staged the International Exhibition of Chinese Art.

Eighties exhibition 'Club to Catwalk' continues throughout the autumn and into the new year, showcasing designs of experimental young designers of the decade, including Betty Jackson, Katharine Hamnett, Wendy Dagworthy and John Galliano through over 85 outfits as well as talks, workshops and lectures based on the exhibition.

Visitors to the V&A this autumn can also see 'Sky Arts Ignition: Memory Palace' until 20th October 2013, a walk-in story that brings to life a new futuristic work of fiction by the author Hari Kunzru. The exhibition includes 20 commissions from graphic designers, illustrators and typographers who have created works inspired by Kunzru's work. "The result is exhilarating", says The Independent.

After its unprecedented success in London, the V&A's 'David Bowie is' exhibition, which closed on Sunday 11th August 2013, will now tour internationally to five cities including Toronto, Sao Paulo, Chicago, Paris and Groningen in the Netherlands, with other international venues in negotiation.
