Over the last few years Dr. Verbeek has worked diligently to research and bring to market drugs for improving consumer's ability to selfmanage common health issues. Prior to this she has built an extensive track record working in medical affairs supporting various therapeutic areas, as well as conducted clinical trials to support pediatric use and indication extensions. She currently designs and leads the execution of the clinical development programs needed to support the approval to switch a prescription drug to an over the counter drug (OTC). She is deeply involved in all aspects of these projects from the research stage to implementation.
Her 13 years of experience in pharmaceutical medicine, of which the last three years as director of clinical development and medical affairs for Consumer Health care Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, have allowed her to broaden her expertise in female health care and consumer selfcare, strengthening her passion to empower women to take control of their health and to set and accomplish high goals for themselves both personally and professionally. She is committed to helping women make good health decisions.
She became involved in her current profession because after 10 years of practicing general medicine in South Africa, initially in a major hospital and later in her own family practice. She started her pharmaceutical career when she moved to the U.K. and accepted a medical advisor position at a pharmaceutical company. She attributes her success to her can-do attitude, and eagerness to learn from anything and anyone on a daily basis. Dr. Verbeek earned her MD from the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands and completed postgraduate training in pharmaceutical medicine at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians. Her hobbies include horseback riding, African wildlife, photography and water sports. In five years, she hopes to have successfully switched a prescription drug to OTC status, and help other women become successful and rewarding careers.
