TORONTO, September 30, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Hande Lena Roy, Chair of the English Department at Piri Reis University, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in higher education.
Best known for her educational background and management skills, Ms. Roy has taught in Dubai, Istanbul and Toronto. Her areas of expertise include educational leadership, faculty development, research, teaching and academic writing. She also specializes in educational consulting, educational technology and curriculum design.
Ms. Roy has more than 15 years of experience in education, including four years as the head of the English Prep Department at Piri Reis University in her former post. On a day-to-day basis, she hires teachers, corresponds with other universities, oversees daily business operations and works as an education consultant. Prior to joining the faculty of Piri Reis University, Ms. Roy worked as a TOEFL and ESP specialist for the UK-based firm C4FF, and she was involved in managing a school for young learners as part of her family business.
Skilled at working with others, Ms. Roy attributes her success to her hard work and work ethic. She also credits her communication skills and great client relationships. Ms. Roy became involved in her profession because she was referred to the position by a prominent academic in the field and a board member of Piri Reis, Istanbul. During her time with Piri Reis Maritime University, Ms. Roy's department achieved an outstanding pass rate of 70 percent within the first year, which elevated the university to the distinction of being among the best ranking prep schools in Istanbul.
Dedicated to education and business management, Ms. Roy received a master's degree in international business management, with honors, from Marmara University. She also has a bachelor's degree in English language and literature from Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey and holds a second major in education from Marmara University. Recognized for her hard work, she has received the Top One Percent award from the Nationwide Exam and the Haci Omer Sabanci Award for being an outstanding student. In her free time, Ms. Roy enjoys reading, traveling and horseback riding. In the coming years, Ms. Roy plans to open her own language school for young learners. She also looks forward to contributing to the scene of education of language acquisition through her research of new methods in Canada to be implemented in her school in Istanbul and to become the best in the field of young learners' education.
