Pawnbroker Donates Hundreds of Needed Band Instruments...Again!

    RALEIGH, NC, October 02, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In the three short years since inception, Bob Moulton and National Pawn have donated more than 1,600 musical instruments and $22,000.00 in cash for repairs, maintenance and supplies to schools in the Triangle and New Hanover County. Many of the instruments are previously owned, but still are perfectly playable. Total value of the instruments donated to date, if purchased new is $220,000.00.

"I can make my impact go farther by donated the previously owned instruments," said Moulton, CEO and President. "A quality, new alto saxophone costs $2,000. For the same money, I can provide four or five pre-owned, quality saxophones. That means four or five additional kids in the band, not just one!"

Moulton continued, "Hopefully, if people see what one person is doing, it will move them to take similar actions, even if it is only one old instrument that they own. We have proven that it works every time we make a public plea call for action, the community comes through. A single article in the Raleigh paper inspired several people to bring in instruments to our stores. Although I offered to buy the instruments, not one person wanted to sell it or even get a receipt for it. It made me feel great. The schools end up winning, and that is our end goal."

Cuts in education budgets have hit the arts programs especially hard for the past several years. These cuts have left many band programs unfunded and in jeopardy. There are hundreds of children that would like to be in the band, but are unable to afford an instrument.

"We are extremely grateful to Durham Public Schools graduate Bob Moulton and National Pawn for the third annual donation of instruments to our middle school band program for it is our students who benefit! It is a shining example of a DPS alumni giving back to his community," said Mary Casey, Director of K-12 Arts Education, DPS. "One person can make a difference! Each person does make a difference and together great things are happening in Durham Public Schools. BRAVO!"

"We would not be able to have a sixth grade band program this year at D.C. Virgo if it were not for Mr. Moulton's donation. Hopefully, more generous folks will follow his lead," said Cameron Bolish, arts education facilitator at D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy in Wilmington. "This will absolutely have an impact on every student who now has this opportunity. Studies show that students exposed to musical training do better on standardized tests, and have a better chance of going on to college and completing a degree."

The public is encouraged to donate their unused instruments to support the program. Instruments can be dropped off at any National Pawn store. If you do not wish to donate your instruments, National Pawn is also actively buying instruments just so that they can get more to donate.
