Mr. Kananura realized that he wanted a position in which his work would make a difference in the lives of others
ANTANANARIVO, MADAGASCAR, October 2, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Alphonse Kananura, Country Director for Handicap International, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in civic services.
Having begun his career as an auditor for KPMG, Mr. Kananura realized that he wanted a position in which his work would make a difference in the lives of others. Thus, he moved into social services and eventually found his way to Handicap International, an independent and impartial aid organization servicing people living with disabilities in disadvantaged areas. A dedicated leader with nearly 25 years' experience to his credit, Mr. Kananura excels at developing those he oversees, including eight district managers and four regional managers. He is also responsible for the oversight of a budget of $2 million, and focuses on maintaining quality standards in the delivery of aid, rehabilitation programs and health services provided to vulnerable people adversely affected by natural disasters, poverty, war and violence at large.
Previously, Mr. Kananura was a program director and finance and administration coordinator for Handicap International, where he headed up support services in Kenya, Rwanda and Somalia. Through local partnerships and the work of committed staff and volunteers, the organization works to clear land mines and other potentially harmful debris, educate people on preventative health measures, and advocate on behalf of those whose lives are temporarily or permanently touched by a subtle imbalance between their individual conditions (disabilities) and the numerous obstacles laid down by a more than often hostile environment. For his part in it all, Mr. Kananura is grateful for the opportunity to be of service and have a profound impact on the overall health and well-being of so many.
Mr. Kananura received a master's degree in computing applied to business management from Universite Dauphine in 1991 where he majored after completing a high school education at the French School in Moscow. He was recognized by the French government with a knight-level award from Ordre du Merite. It is his ultimate hope that through his work and the work of organizations like Handicap International, positive economic development in Rwanda and Madagascar will be a realistic, attainable goal.
