WASHINGTON, DC, October 24, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Curtiss-Wright Controls, Inc. today announced that Exlar Corporation, a Curtiss-Wright Company, and the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Command (TARDEC) have signed a cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA) to evaluate the Exlar EXP-24 controller circuit boards for the Robotic Deployment & Extraction System (ROBODEXS).
This collaboration enables Exlar to integrate the EXP-24 hardware into the linear actuation control architecture for the ROBODEXS motor control system. TARDEC's evaluation process ensures that the Exlar EXP-24 controller hardware is robust in design and performance and ready for real world military applications.
TARDEC's ROBODEXS is designed to deploy and extract small robotic vehicles while storing them in a compact, vertical position. The system allows for rapid deployment of small robots, minimizing storage space and reducing the risk of injury to the soldier. ROBODEXS' modular design allows for stowage and deployment of one to twenty small robots. Robots are stored in vertical alignment and deployed with control via the Master Controller (MC) and use of Exlar linear actuators and the EXP-24 as the Individual Motor Controller (ICM).
